Kazuri means small and beautiful in Swahili, the language of the women who create this exquisite jewellery at the base of the Ngong Hills outside of Nairobi, Kenya. Founded in 1975 by Lady Susan Wood, the idea was to teach the local women the art of creating ceramic jewellery and so provide them with a means of earning a living. Each bead is shaped by hand before being polished, kiln fired, painted, kiln fired again and then strung. Over 90 women are now employed in the workshop producing these beautiful pieces.
